  • Jonathan Bishop’s Statement

I’m religious, but I don’t know what I believe in. I know it doesn’t fit in with any belief system already established. Although I am not of any religion, I do 'miss' its usefulness. Taking the form of future rituals my scenarios aim to question what aspirations drive our technological research and what could happen if our discoveries change our beliefs. Although science for many is the vessel in which we place our faith and is seen as the marker for truth, I believe there is room for wonder and myth amongst what would otherwise be pure data. Science can explain why a whale swam up the Thames recently, but it was not science that made this so magical.
