  • Simon Ward’s Statement

Working at night, the darkened room is illuminated by a projection of light. A flatbed scanner becomes the artist's tool for representation. The process involves the act of placing the object in direct contact with the cleaned transparent surface of the scanner. An indexical trace recorded by the passing beam of light. Through conversations and untold stories, inanimate objects that embody a sense of memory and touch are selected and removed from their origin. The result is an image of meticulous detail and clarity suspended within a dark relief.
