Carlos Garcia’s Statement
I centre my practice around drawing. I consider daily drawing a meditation, a preparation for the actual 'work'. Most of my sculptures are direct figurations from drawings, although at times I do digress and fiddle around with found objects; either random bits from the street or off-cuts and rubbish from the studio. My primary subject matter has been abstractions on plant forms and more recently inverted landscapes, or shelf-like rock formations. I enjoy the idea of answering the question: "In our time is there any virgin territory for art to tread upon?" by literally making that ground.
