    Moving Image Studio

  • The Moving Image Studio is a teaching and production centre that supports Royal College of Art students who work with video, film, screen-based media and projected installation. Part of the School of Fine Art, the Moving Image Studio is located on Howie Street within the College's expanding Battersea campus.

The Moving Image Studio offers five strands of activity:

Production – All students can shoot in the studio, loan out camera and sound equipment, and use our edit suites. Students have access to technical support in postproduction 5 days per week, and technical support in lighting and shooting 2.5 days per week.

Seminars – Our practice-theory seminar series, delivered by Dr Steven Eastwood, looks at various themes associated with artists' moving image, cinema, film theory and philosophy.

Workshops – Our popular hands-on production workshops range from introducing the fundamentals of moving image through to shooting and editing video, lighting for moving image, and working with 16mm film and sound recording.

Group Crits – We lead a series of intensive all-day crits, each of which is led by a visiting practitioner or curator.

Tutorials – Tutorials and regular support in aspects of moving image are available with Stuart Croft, tutor and programmer at the Moving Image Studio.

The Moving Image Studio is also developing a professional practice series that will bring in key players from the moving image world to discuss what they do and their place in the field.
