    Capital Campaign

  • The Royal College of Art has operated from its current site in Kensington since 1962, but since then our student numbers have grown by almost 40 per cent and our facilities can no longer support the growing student body.

In 2007 the College acquired a long lease on a site in Battersea, directly opposite our recently refurbished Sculpture Building, and we have since embarked on an ambitious plan to develop a prestigious second campus for Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture programmes (the School of Fine Art) and Ceramics & Glass and Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery programmes. The entire development will cost £37 million and will increase the College's physical space by over a third when executed.

With generous donations and support, the College has already seen dramatic changes in the past few years. The Sackler Building for Painting opened in 2009, followed by the Dyson Building in 2012 when students in Printmaking and Photography relocated to Battersea. The Dyson Building also houses a 225-seat lecture theatre, a gallery and InnovationRCA. In spring 2013, construction will begin on the Sir Po-Shing and Lady Woo Department of Applied Art Building, which will provide state-of-the-art project spaces for students in the programmes of Ceramics & Glass and Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery.

As the campaign enters into its final stages, we're now asking for support from those who want to invest in our creative vision for the future.
