  • The use of the human body’s range of movement and power in modern lifestyles has been diminished by our application of technology to the search for speed and efficiency in completing everyday tasks. Our increasingly sedentary lifestyles are having negative physical and psychological effects on our bodies, which evolved to be used in different and versatile ways. Many of us now have to find time specifically to exercise or play sports, just to remain active, healthy and happy. Meanwhile, the energy used by machines to carry out tasks for us is becoming more precious and valuable.

HuMo, or the Human Dynamo, is one response to this, emphasising and encouraging activity that is integrated into our lives. The result is clothing with built-in, kinetic energy harvesting capabilities, using the physical capacity of the body to power some of the devices that we now rely on in everyday life. This version is a jacket that takes power from the natural arm swing of the wearer as they walk or run and applies it directly to lighting, increasing their visibility – and therefore their safety – as they move around the streets at dawn or dusk.
