My practice as an image-maker is concerned with place. The driving factor behind this work is a fascination with the overlooked, the obscure, or the isolated and the need to document these in an attempt to understand identity and place within society. My current project looks at historical and contemporary smuggling in Romney Marsh, Kent, and how this unique landscape has led to the survival of such an industry. I’m particularly interested in the relationship between history and the present day, and observing when the two overlap.
