Long fascinated by the relationship between cinematic technology and narrative development, my research work has drawn me to the strange hybrid form, the essay film – mixing the worlds of fiction, documentary and experimental filmmaking, looking always to the personal voice and often experimenting with recent technologies.
In this short film essay, two dates – London winning the 2012 Olympic games on July 6 and the terror attacks of July 7 – provide a catalyst to explore themes such as the interrelationship between violence and nationalism, regeneration, sport and development legacies, globalisation and national branding, and the role of images in each.
