Michaela Crimmin's activities included commissions and residencies in the UK, India and
Afghanistan with artists including Jeremy Deller, Manu Luksch, Heather
& Ivan Morison, and David Cotterrell; a website; education pilots;
and the development of an interdisciplinary network of three-thousand
people. She commissioned Land, Art: A Cultural Ecology Handbook (2006)
edited by Max Andrews, a compendium of essays, dialogues and
commissioned projects by artists, ecologists, cultural theorists,
activists and curators. Events on the programme included a two-day
symposium at the Sharjah Biennial 2008; a two-day interdisciplinary,
international conference in partnership with the London School of
Economics and Political Science attended by 300 people; and a ten-day
workshop in China in partnership with Vitamin Creative Space.
Earlier work included coordinating the first phase of the Fourth
Plinth series of temporary commissions in London’s Trafalgar Square
with Mark Wallinger, Bill Woodrow and Rachel Whiteread, and was
subsequently a member of the GLA Fourth Plinth commissioning group
until 2010. She directed the Art for Architecture award scheme that
encouraged and supported collaboration between artists and design
professionals.
Previously she was a curator for Public Art Development Trust, working with artists including Catherine Yass, Zarina Bhimji and Tania
Kovats, commissioning work for hospitals, businesses, schools and other
public places.
