James Lamb is a practising industrial designer with extensive experience working with manufacturing companies and consultancy.
James Lamb graduated with an Industrial Design degree from Brunel University in 1993. Having worked for James Dyson’s RDD Prototypes while still at university, he went on to become one of the very first design engineers at Dyson Appliances.
James joined Random Product Design in 1997, motivated to apply his knowledge to a wider range of clients and projects. James has worked on products for British Telecom, GE and Lucent Technologies.
In 1999 James was a founding director of product design and interaction consultants TheAlloy. James’ designs included telephones for BT and Suncorp, fridges for Brandt group and firefighting equipment for Marconi and e2v technologies.
In 2007 James set up The Product Works with Gareth Jones. He has designed surgical instruments for Johnson & Johnson, petrol nozzles and forecourts for BP, a supercomputer, film props for Steven Spielberg and future concepts for Gillette and P&G.
James’ design for the Argus3 Thermal Imaging Camera won seven international design awards including IDSA Gold and iF, and is also in the permanent collection of MOMA New York.
James has worked extensively on orthopaedic surgical instruments for DePuy, part of Johnson & Johnson. Products include future concepts for total hip replacement and knee arthroscopy.
James is RAE Visiting Professor in Innovation at Brunel University.
