Specialism: Printed Textiles
Hannah Sabapathy’s collection explores the relationship between natural and man-made materials by creating ‘fictional versions of the natural’. Surface designs incorporate a number of processes in their making, from the industrial
to the hands-on. Hybrid surfaces begin to emerge.
Imagery draws on minerals, fossils and other naturally occurring patterns, mixed in with accidental patterns and unlikely starting points: a fragment of a coagulated coffee cup; some fake fish-tank seaweed; a ceramic jelly mould; a piece of scrunched up tinfoil. Together they build up a loose taxonomy of bits and pieces, process and pattern that offers an alternative hierarchy of materials.
