I began filmmaking as a choreographer and a linguist. As a choreographer I was interested in the dichotomy between movement and stillness, sound and silence, and their relationship to architecture. My years of research in dance and language highly influence my work, as well as sociopolitical issues. Being born to an activist family only a few years before the military junta took over in Turkey and growing up in those circumstances, I cannot help but be aware of ideology in art, architecture, language and in every part of our lives. This strand of my background arises in each of my work, either strongly or subtly.
