Cities are receiving increasing attention as the critical unit of social, economic and environmental existence. How we want our cities to be is a question we must ask ourselves. The ‘Smart City’ is gaining traction as the future model: a built environment that lives and breathes in a network of information. But a city is only as smart, and more importantly vital, as the individuals and communities that it comprises.
The ‘Connected Freedom’ project explores how individuals can have the agency to negotiate freedom in a networked city. In particular it looks at our relationship with the built environment and how we might harness pervasive technologies.
