Thomas Aquilina is an architect and academic dedicated to building communities of radical thought and progressive practice.

Thomas is a Research Tutor in Architecture at the RCA. His research is a synthesis of image and text that investigates the relationship between architecture and empire, belonging and Blackness. By looking closely at the legacies of extraction, Thomas seeks to reveal sites of inequality in our shared built environment.

His work spans different forms of practice to include advocacy, design, pedagogy, policy and research. He is co-director of New Architecture Writers and co-founder of publishing collective Afterparti. He holds the inaugural Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation Fellowship at the London School of Architecture. In 2021–22, Thomas was a Design Researcher in Residence at the Design Museum.
