An exhibition of Grand Challenge 2024/25 projects at the Royal College of Art on the theme of Design Resilience.
The Grand Challenge offers students an opportunity to learn how to develop creatively driven and innovative solutions to a new and emerging major global issue (a Grand Challenge) through working in interdisciplinary creative teams across the School of Design, which includes those from our Design Products, Fashion, Innovation Design Engineering, Intelligent Mobility, Service Design and Textiles programmes.
This year the theme is Design Resilience. Working across 108 teams, students were assigned to boroughs across Greater London in order to explore ways to help local communities and other key stakeholders develop more resilient systems to the challenges they currently face and are likely to face in the coming years ahead, whether that relates to issues due to climate change, health, pollution, justice and inclusion, or other socio-economic challenges. The role of design resilience is to create strategies and solutions that are robust to these risks and challenges and have the ability to adapt, change and recover.
