Public premiere of Situated Testimonies of Grenfell - a new film by Forensic Architecture and members of Grenfell community.
The Grenfell Tower fire was a generational tragedy for London and the UK, which ultimately claimed 72 lives.
As we approach the seventh anniversary, with the campaign for justice still ongoing, this event is a call for reorganising our relationship with the city. It includes the first public screening of Situated Testimonies of Grenfell, a film by Forensic Architecture, that weaves interconnected stories of the night of the fire, from the perspective of survivors, bereaved families, and witnesses.
Ten individuals affected by the fire worked with researchers from Forensic Architecture, at Goldsmiths, University of London, to tell their stories using a 3D digital model of the tower and its surrounding environment. These include Marcio Gomes, Edward Daffarn, Nazanin Aghlani, Shahrokh Aghlani, Nicholas Burton, Nina Masroh, David O’Connell, Sarah Ali.
Through the bespoke interviewing technique of ‘Situated Testimony’, Forensic Architecture helped survivors and witnesses access their memories and reconstruct it the way they remembered it. Piecing these reconstructions together, and combining it with analysis of the fire, this triptych 60-min film is a shared story of that fatal night.
This is an event about memory, recollection, and storytelling, but it is as much about the state of architecture and our personal relationship to the city.
The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion including participants of the film.
