Following an extensive international search which brought forward a number of outstanding candidates, Kerry Curtis has been appointed as Dean of the School of Communication. Kerry is currently Head of Bath School of Design at Bath Spa University, and will take up her new role at the RCA in April.

An RCA alumna and former visiting lecturer, Kerry brings to the RCA an impressive background leading disciplines both within and beyond the School of Communication’s portfolio, insightful experience in educational management and development, and commitment to learning and teaching, curriculum innovation, and research. Kerry’s student-centred leadership ensures that students are challenged and supported in their practice and can thrive within a collaborative community of communicators, designers and researchers.
Commenting on the appointment, Naren Barfield, Deputy Vice-Chancellor said: ‘Having played a leading role in Bath Spa’s University Academic Framework Review for Art and Design, which included Visual Communication, Animation and Graphic Communication, as well as previous roles as Head of Department and Senior Teaching Fellow, Kerry brings distinguished experience in curriculum design. She joins us at a pivotal moment for the RCA as we develop an exciting new flexible academic framework, and new programmes, pathways and electives linked to our world class research.’
Kerry Curtis said: ‘‘A creative education brings people, industry and collaborators together to solve grand challenges. It is an exciting time to join the RCA as we face a catalyst moment, launching into new territories, evolving our craft and delivering in new ways.
Kerry also brings a wealth of experience delivering from her high-profile collaborations – including with the British Council, and across industry, working in-house for Valentino, Alberta Ferretti and Nina Ricci.
