The Royal College of Art is responding to the cost of living increase by offering students in financial need new resources to help navigate the impact, alongside money saving tips and advice for everyone.
For those experiencing financial difficulties, we have repurposed our Emergency Hardship Fund to also include a utilities (electric, gas and water bills) element. For example, an award could be made if a student is managing money difficulties because of an unexpected and exceptionally high energy bill.
We also continue to offer financial assistance through the Materials Fund that aims to support students who may be needing funding to cover costs for course materials or materials testing where such purchases are taking money away from essential living costs. The application forms with guidance are available here
Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing news of additional resources available to students. These include access to free period care products, small awards for essential food shopping and the identification of warm places to study in the evening. We will capture these initiatives and practical strategies within a dedicated Moodle site to be continually updated. Please also look out for everyday ways to pocket extra cash seen on our ‘Tricks and Money Saving Tips’ community boards in Kensington.
If you feel you might be in need of emotional or practical support during these uncertain times, please do contact the Student Support team by visiting the Student Centre in the Lower Courtyard Galleries, Kensington, email us or connect with us during our regular drop-in sessions. All are welcome.
