Inside/Out: RETROUVIUS

Working with salvage requires the insight to see the beauty and potential in materials that others might reject or throw away. For over 30 years, RETROUVIUS has led the way in this field, applying our philosophy of reuse to the buildings we work with. Less than 1% of demolition materials are reused in the construction industry. Our design studio seeks to elevate the reuse of over-looked material. We celebrate the tactile personality and emotional quota that reused materials bring and celebrate age as a visceral narrative. From the laying of foundation stones to the cutting of curtain fabric, we question how we do things and to understand the potential for reuse from the outset: how can we reuse what we have already? How can we do so, and still use it again?
