Kazuhiro Yamanaka, born in Tokyo in 1971, graduated from Musashino Art University (Tokyo, BA) in 1992 and from The Royal College of Art for Postgraduate studies (London, MA) in 1995. His work spans furniture design, product design, lighting design and installations. His current client list includes Pallucco, Ligne Roset, Boffi, Ingo Maurer, Saazs, Alessi and museums worldwide. He has been awarded many prizes including being named the Winner of Design Report Award 2004 (Milan). His creations are included in the collections of MoMA (New York), and Power Station Of Art (Shanghai). His lighting installations have been featured at the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), Collette (Paris), Designboom, Laforet Museum (Tokyo), Hangaram Design Museum (Seoul) etc. His first major solo exhibition was realized in Power Station of Art (Shanghai) in 2017. He is also active in the field of education and has been teaching as a professor at Musashino Art University since 2014, and in addition, as a visiting professor at China Academy of Art since 2020. In this lecture, he explains his design philosophy through the production process of various projects.
