Entries to a national competition to find the new emblem will be judged by a panel of graphic designers, visual artists and design professionals, chaired by V&A Director Tristram Hunt.

Alongside Dr Paul Thompson, Vice-Chancellor of the Royal College of Art, the panel includes RCA Dean of the School of Communication Kerry Curtis, Margaret Calvert OBE who taught at the College for almost 40 years, RCA Ceramics alumna Lubna Chowdhary, Yinka Ilori MBE and Gabriella Marcella.

They will be joined by experts from the RCA, V&A and the Design Museum, as well as a representative from the Royal Household.

The national competition is run by the V&A in conjunction with Buckingham Palace, and is open to all aspiring designers and illustrators between the ages of 13 and 25. Young artists across the United Kingdom are invited to submit an original design for an emblem that captures the spirit of the Platinum Jubilee.

The winning emblem will symbolise the very first Platinum Jubilee, marking The Queen’s seventy years as Sovereign, and will be used widely as the nation comes together to celebrate Her Majesty’s historic reign next year.

The winner will be invited to join in the celebrations, including receiving an invitation to attend the ‘Platinum Party at the Palace’, the BBC concert being held at Buckingham Palace in June 2022. The other top ten entrants will also be included in the celebrations, and their designs – along with the winner’s – will be displayed at the V&A in June 2022.

The competition closes on 16 July 2021, and the winning entry will be announced in Summer 2021.
